Arsenal Transfer News: Javier Hernandez Sparks Rumours of Leverkusen Exit

Javier Hernandez has hinted he could leave Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen this summer, with Premier League side Arsenal likely to be interested in the Mexican striker's future.  

Hernandez has been in fine form since swapping life with Manchester United for Germany's top flight. But his stellar performances apparently aren't enough to stop him from keeping his options open, according to Metro's Sean Kearns:

We’ll see you never know what happens.
I’m glad and happy to be part of this great club. In this sport, it does not matter whether you sign a contract for 10 years or 10 times prolong by one year. In six months, everything can again be different.

Those words will have caught the attention of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The Gunners chief has already been linked with a move for the prolific 27-year-old.

Former United man Hernandez has been linked with the Gunners this month.

Back in December, Spanish publication Don Balon (h/t Liam Corless of the Daily Mirror) suggested the player known as Chicharito was Arsenal's "No. 1 target" in the winter transfer window.

But earlier in January, Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller insisted his club don't need to sell their top goal-getter, according to Samuel Stevens of the Independent.
Wenger also appeared to suggest his January transfer business would be limited to only one player—expected to be FC Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny, per Sam Long of the London Evening Standard: "I believe that the next step is to get [Tomas] Rosicky back, [Danny] Welbeck back, [Alexis] Sanchez back, [Jack] Wilshere back and maybe we will get one player in (Elneny)."
Yet Arsenal's desire to secure a quick deal for Hernandez, as well as Voller's stance, may be irrelevant. Kearns reports Hernandez "cannot play for another side this season given that he’s already played for two teams."
Having to wait is something of a blow for Arsenal. The Gunners could certainly use Hernandez's ability as a poacher to fire their title challenge to another level this season.
He's scored 19 times in all competitions for Leverkusen during this campaign, per WhoScored.com. After stagnating at Old Trafford, Chicharito has rediscovered his pace and confidence in front of goal.

t's the quickness and instincts to pounce on even a hint of a chance that the Gunners would surely welcome. Olivier Giroud has been deadly in front of goal at times this season, but he's a natural target man who lacks the pace to really stretch a defence. Theo Walcott can do that, but the England international cannot always shake his injury problems.
Alexis Sanchez is another wide forward who can play centrally, but the Chilean has had his own fitness problems this season. He's also most effective when cutting in from the left.
With Danny Welbeck also struggling to overcome an injury, Arsenal's squad is short of centre-forwards who can regularly find the net.
Landing a proven goalscorer with Premier League experience like Hernandez, would be a coup for Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Wenger's attack is a quality and pacy forward short of being great.
