Arsenal are reportedly lining up a bid for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama
as they look to continue their winter spending. Plus, the Gunners are
in no rush to extend Joel Campbell's contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The Independent's Jack De Menezes claimed Arsenal still plan to launch a move for Southampton star Wanyama despite adding midfield anchor Mohamed Elneny to their ranks on Thursday.
De Menezes reported Coquelin has now returned to training, as has injury-ravaged academy graduate Jack Wilshere, but Wenger could decide to beef up his ranks further with the addition of Wanyama.
The Kenya international has been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past, and with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all likely to leave Arsenal this summer, replacements will be required.
Saints manager Ronald Koeman was recently quizzed on Wanyama's chances of leaving
St. Mary's in the summer, but the Dutchman declined to comment on the player's situation, per BBC Sport's Oluwashina Okeleji:
De Menezes also cited a report from the Mirror and claimed Wanyama is currently ahead of other Arsenal midfield targets, Lars Bender and William Carvalho, in Wenger's winter recruitment plans.
The Gunners were disappointed to draw 3-3 at Anfield last Wednesday, and thus put their Premier League lead at serious risk. That left former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison to question whether a skill set such as that of Wanyama's would have helped their cause:
Meanwhile, the north London club aren't at panic stations in their bid to extend Campbell's stay in north London just yet, even despite his fine run of form in recent months.
That's according to James Benge of the London Evening Standard, who reported Galatasaray target Campbell isn't likely to receive a new offer just yet. However, Wenger is pleased he decided to keep hold of the attacker amid a sea of exit speculation last summer:
