Arsenal Transfer News: Samuel Chukwueze Medical Reported, Latest Rumours
Samuel Chukwueze has reportedly undergone a medical with Arsenal ahead of his long-rumoured move to the Premier League club.
According to Israel Ojoko of News24 Nigeria, the 16-year-old midfielder is set to sign a four-year deal with the Gunners after impressing for Nigeria at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile last year.
The report added Chukwueze has been "given the green light" to make the switch after waiting for visa and work-permit clearance.
Chukwueze will not be able to sign a professional contract with Arsenal until he turns 18, but he will benefit from playing in the Gunners' setup, especially under the watchful eye of manager Arsene Wenger.
Indeed, the youngster cited Arsenal's history of promoting and developing youth players as a reason he wanted to join the club, per AfricanFootball.com (via Goal's Jamie Dunn):
Arsenal as you well know are a very good club and it will be good for my career since I will be able to learn many new things.
I like Arsenal because they are a club who give young players the opportunity to showcase their talents and I believe I would be given the chance to play too.
Nigeria triumphed at the Under-17 World Cup in Chile, beating Mali 2-0 in November's final.
Chukwueze netted three goals and provided three assists in seven tournament matches, including a double against the hosts in the group stages, per FIFA:
He clearly has a keen eye for goal and a lethal left foot, and Arsenal will hope he can make good on his potential and break into the Gunners first team in the future.
Per Ojoko, Arsenal's deal to bring in Chukwueze and fellow Nigerian Kelechi Nwakali, 17, is worth £4 million, a potential pittance if they go on to become stalwarts in north London.
